Holiday Sparkle | Upcycled Bottle Serving Trays

What do you get when you take a plain, clear wine bottle and add a half a teaspoon of sparkly mica powder into it and heat it up in the kiln until it is flat?

You get an amazing upcycled serving tray!

Sassy Glass Studio finally found a use for all the clear wine bottles that were getting a bad rap for not being 'pretty' enough to be made into serving trays, cheese boards, trivets, spoon rests or whatever you want to call them. The photo below shows the first bottles to receive some sparkly shine. There is one each of gold, bronze and reddish pink. More or less mica can be added to the bottle for different effects. More of these bottles will be created and will be available for sale at the Market Square Farmers' Market, Holiday Market, and in the Etsy shop very soon. These bottles will be $20 each. Regular sized wine bottles without mica are $15 and small bottles are $15 with mica and $10 without mica.

These trays are the perfect gift to give for anniversaries {gold, silver and bronze mica are available}, hostess gifts, weddings, and of course, Christmas. Discounts are available for order of ten or more bottles {plain or mica}.

Clear bottles with mica powder added prior to flattening in the kiln are a great gift idea!

Autumn Has Arrived

Autumn made an appearance in East Tennessee for a few days at the beginning of October and it reminded me that Christmas is right around the corner. This means I have to create lots of fresh fused glass goodness to restock the Etsy shop and fill the booth at Market Square Farmers' Market. It also means that you still have time to place your custom order for Christmas gifts.

Don't forget there is something Sassy for everyone! With the launch of the new Digital Fusography line of fused glass featuring color images permanently fused to the glass, the possibilities for personalized one-of-a-kind fused glass art are endless.

Drop by the Sassy Glass Studio Etsy shop to see what's new and drop by the Market Square Farmers' Market every Saturday to see what is available as well as place your custom orders.

Sneak Peek | Digital Fusography

Sassy Glass Studio is excited to announce the arrival of Digital Fusography. Finally! For over one year I have been researching methods and processes for fusing full-color images permanently to one-of-a-kind glass jewelry and art. Sample pieces using several different types of digital images- people, animals, art, logos and flowers- were created on a base of white glass and are shown below. White does not print so white will almost always be the base color of choice, but it can be edged with a border in a coordinating or contrasting color to add interest to the piece.

The information below is retail/consumer pricing, but wholesale/vendor pricing will be available soon. This is unique product I will be marketing to my fellow photographers in time for the holidays. Contact me at lisa@sassyglassstudio.com for details/pricing before it is posted here.

Going Green | Introducing the 'Recycling Center'

One day as I was cleaning and removing the labels from some wine bottles to flatten into cheese trays, I realized I could do something different with the bottles. I could break them! Not only could I create some new art, but I could also relieve my frustrations. Awesome!

This past Saturday at the Market Square Farmers' Market Sassy Glass Studio introduced the 'Recycling Center' featuring fused glass goodness created from recycled {or if you prefer 'upcycled'} glass bottles. These pieces join the wine bottle cheese trays I have been created for several years and are a small bowl and a business card holder. Additional pieces will be added to the collection over the next few weeks.

The bottle used to create these pieces was a Pellegrino water bottle which is a fabulous shade of light bright green. I am always on the hunt for colored bottles, so if you or someone you know has any to share, be sure to send them my way.

Knoxville Creative Hands Street Team Spring Show & Sale

Many of you know that one of my passions is being an Etsy seller. I love how Etsy lets me share my one-of-a-kind fused glass goodness with the world without having to venture from Knoxville. Several years ago, the Knoxville Creative Hands Street Team {KCHST} was formed with the intent of giving local Etsy sellers an opportunity to unite and network, share and learn as well as hold events to showcase our varied artist talents and crafts.
As the captain of the Knoxville Etsy Team many long hours are spent organizing and marketing this event so it means a lot to me when my friends, family and customers come and check it out. I hope to see you there and thank you for your continued support of the local handmade community.
The Knoxville Creative Hands Street Team Spring Show & Sale is on the 14th from 10am to 6pm. Come shop Knoxville-area Etsy sellers at 127 W. Jackson Avenue in the Old City. While you are downtown, visit the Market Square Farmers' Market, where you will find me most every Saturday this summer, or the coffee houses and restaurants in the Old City. This is a free, family-friendly event and there is lots of parking in the area.

Sassy Glass Studio will be back at Market Square Farmers' Market on Saturday, May 21st from 9am to 2pm. Be sure to stop by and check out one of the most amazing reasons to live in Knoxville.

Sassy New Year | {Teach} {Create} {Connect}

This year I am changing the focus of my creative world back to my photography. No pun intended! Creating fused glass art, as some of you know, is something I fell into quite by accident and while I love creating my one-of-a-kind art I feel it's time to redirect my energy toward the business I share with my husband, Allan, ALM Photo. Earlier this month I launched a brand-new division for boudoir photography, Velvet {Boudoir Photography} which I am very excited about. Be sure to check it out and share with your friends.

Don't worry I am not going to shutter my glass studio but instead I am going to put more energy into teaching fused glass classes, creating more unique and challenging art and connecting with more artists, gallery owners, shopkeepers and customers.

{Teach}
Not only do I want to continue to offer Beginner and Intermediate Fused Glass Classes, but I would love to offer an Advanced class as well. The class structure and pricing will remain the same, so if you have been wanting to take one of the classes, I am booking now for Spring and Summer. This year I am introducing a workshop series in conjunction with Creativity Central, a partnership of ALM Photo, Sassy Glass Studio and other creative professionals who have something wonderful to share. My first workshop series will teach creative people how to sell their creations and operate as a business. There will be more to come so bookmark the Creativity Central blog site and check back soon for details.

{Create}
Starting this year, I am going to focus on growing as an artist and create one-of-a-kind fused glass art that pushes my ability and knowledge. Just like I choose to work on personal projects as a photographer, I will be working on designs that have been swirling around in my head for years. Although I will continue to create the items my customers have grown to love and expect, look for me to be creating larger and more complex works of art.

{Connect}
One of my most important goals for this Sassy New Year is to become a part of Knoxville's Market Square Farmer's Market {MSFM} which will give me the opportunity to meet more local people and Sassify the local area. Being involved with the local Etsy Team, Knoxville Creative Hands Street Team, is something I truly love and it takes time to manage the Team as well as organize the two events we hold each year so I feel being a part of MSFM will keep me focused locally while selling through my Etsy shop gives me the chance to take Sassy Glass Studio global.

So, there you have it...a little more about me, the artist behind the glass-filled kiln. If you've been with me all along I thank you for being here for me and if you have just found me, stick around and see where this adventure will take us. Stay Sassy!

Find Sassy Glass Studio on Facebook, Etsy, ArtFire, Twitter, and in the studio.
