Three Ways to Save on Your Handmade Holiday Shopping

Shop handmade for the holidays and save in Sassy Glass Studio's Etsy shop!

From this past Saturday to this coming Sunday I am involved from morning to night with an amazing event that kicks off the holiday season in Knoxville, Tennessee. Fantasy of Trees is an annual celebration to benefit East Tennessee Children's Hospital that features hundred of decorated trees (most of which are available for sale and delivered to you after the event), a gingerbread house village, children's activities and even a carousel! I am honored to be one of the co-chairs of this event and I love being a part of it, but it does take me away from the every day operation of my fused glass business during one of the busiest times of the year.

It is because of this that I am offering three different opportunities to save by shopping on-line in the Sassy Glass Studio Etsy shop for Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. I will be back at the Market Square Holiday Market on December 6, 13 and 20 as well as the Ijams Handmade Holiday Marketplace on December 7 for those of you who love to shop with me in person.

A word to the on-line shoppers...I have a lot of new items, specifically pendants and coasters featuring new Fusography designs (see below), that have not made their way into the shop yet. I apologize for them not being available as part of the sale, but they will be available very soon! And don't forget that you can custom order fused glass goodness with your own photos or graphic designs too! Check out this post for five creative ways you can share your Instagram photos.

Here is how you can save:

Shop the Sassy Glass Studio Etsy shop and save 20% off your order each time you shop with these coupon codes!

Black Friday, November 28th : BLACKFRIDAY

Small Business Saturday, November 29th : SMALLBIZSAT2014
Cyber Monday, November 30th : CYBERMONDAY2014

The coupon code is only good for purchases made on the date shown above. TN sales tax will be added to orders shipped in TN.

March of the Sassy Glass Studio Penguins- Part II

The fused glass penguins are home from their stint adorning the Christmas tree in the Santa Hats booth at Fantasy of Trees and eager to be adopted. The penguins are about 4 inches tall and have either a red or green scarf. Each one has a loop for hanging. These little guys are perfect for the tree or as an accent to a wreath or swag. You could get totally crazy and hang one around your neck like a pendant, but that would be your call.
There are only sixteen (16) 2008 Limited Edition Fantasy of Trees penguins remaining (as of this moment). Please contact me immediately to purchase your penguins for $25. They will go quickly at the Home Shows and Open House. You will not find anything like these ornaments in a store. These are one-of-a-kind fused glass art and I will not be creating any more at this amazingly low price.
I almost forgot...There are also snowflakes available too. There are quite a few clear sparkly snowflakes available for $10 and $15 depending on size.

Is this not the cutest penguin ever?

Don't forget to swing by the Sassy Glass Studio Open House and check out all the new pieces I have been creating. Lots of great gift ideas with prices ranging from $10 ornaments to $200 art panels. Custom creation orders will be taken through the end of the Open House for completion and local Knoxville delivery by Christmas Eve. I hope to see you next week!

March of the Sassy Glass Studio Penguins

The penguins started with a plan and a design. The plan was to create fused glass penguins to decorate the tree in the Santa Hats kid's creativity area at Fantasy of Trees. My husband, Allan, and I are co-chairs for this particular area and I wanted our requisite Christmas tree to be extra special. The penguin design needed to be rather simplistic as I would have to cut the penguin body parts freehand. I chose the penguin above as the basic design and decided to to cut the black body parts as three sections: a half circle for the lower body, a triangle for the mid body and "arms" and a circle for the head. The entire penguin is about 4 inches long, so none of the parts are especially big. The white body parts were cut as two separate pieces- the head and the body. The last pieces are the two small triangles that form the feet.

The penguin body parts were assembled in the kiln and fired to a full fuse.

Once out of the kiln, the penguins were washed to remove any shelf paper residue.

The penguins faces were hand-painted using glass paints. Special care was taken to give the penguins a happy face.

Here are penguins waiting to be placed in the oven to set their painted faces.

After the penguins were placed in the oven for 40 minutes at 325 degrees their painted faces were permanent and their scarves were tied on and a dab of hot glue was added to make sure the scarves stayed put.

This penguin is awaiting the glue gun to fasten his scarf.

The penguins are ready to go to Fantasy of Trees.

The penguins are a wonderful addition to the Santa Hats Christmas tree. I also crafted the snowflakes on the tree.
The cute little penguins finally made their way to their destination. Time to party!
The penguin project was a lot of fun, but after handcrafting nineteen penguins I am pretty sure I will consider this a limited edition. Each of the penguins is $25 and they will be available for sale at the end of Fantasy of Trees on November 30th.
