Sassy Glass Studio’s Fused Glass Classes

Beginner Fused Glass Class, which will also serve as the prerequisite for Intermediate Fused Glass Class, will provide students who are either brand-new to fusing glass or who need a refresher course with the opportunity to complete two basic fusing projects, one will be a set of four 4-inch coasters and the other is your choice of: 4 pendants, nightlight, or sun catcher.

Class schedule :: Schedule is for two 4-hour classes. The days and time can be set to accommodate your schedule (and mine too!).

Class #1
· Overview of fused glass and techniques complete with informational handouts and suggested books and websites to get more information and/or design ideas.
· Topics include kiln and mold preparation, glass selection, project design, firing schedules, safety, glass supplies, assembly, annealing, compatibility testing, slumping and draping, working with frits, stringers and noodles, inclusions, as well as many other wonderful things you have always wanted to know about fusing glass! Previous experience cutting glass is not necessary and will be covered as required.
· Students will create the set of 4 coasters and learn about the firing process in this hands-on class.
· Students will be advised to determine the choice of second project before the end of Class #1 to ensure supplies are on hand, etc.

Class #2
· Students will review of the coasters created in Class #1 and finish the coasters as necessary.
· Students will create the remaining piece(s) in the hands-on portion of the class and place them in the kiln for firing.

Note: Students can arrange pick-up or delivery of items completed in Class #2

A question and answer period will conclude each class. Handouts are included and recommended reading list will be provided. No books are necessary for the classes.
My goal for Beginner Fused Glass Class is to provide all participants with an overall understanding of fused glass and the various techniques involved in the creation of some basic pieces. Intermediate Fused Glass Class will allow participants to explore more advanced techniques and fusing methods and complete two complex projects involving slumping and/or draping.

Dogwood Arts Festival Art DeTour :: Studio Art Trails {one-of-a-kind fused glass art | Knoxville, TN}

Have you ever admired an artist's work and wondered where they create their art? Many times the creative process is just as exciting as the art itself. Dogwood Arts Festival gives everyone the opportunity to participate in a self-guided tour of artist's studios as part of the Art DeTour : Studio Art Trails. Much like the dogwood trails you can drive at your leisure to admire the beautiful gardens of your fellow Knoxvillians, this art tour gives you the chance to peek inside the studios of artists you know or those you have yet to meet. Sassy Glass Studio joins a long list of participating studios on this years Art DeTour and we'd love to have you stop by and see how we create our one-of-a-kind fused glass art and browse the shop in the studio as well. A complete list of participating studios can be found here.
 Sassy Glass Studio fused glass goodness is created in the lower level of "Creativity Central'

Dogwood Arts Festival Market Square Art Fair {one-of-a-kind fused glass art | Knoxville, TN}

The past week was a whirlwind of activity- organizing, creating and stressing out- culminating in a successful Dogwood Arts Festival Market Square Art Fair over the weekend. After setting up the freshly-washed tent on Thursday morning in the pouring rain, Allan and I headed home to dry off and get some work done. Then we headed back downtown with our ALM Photo hats on to Salon Visage to photograph models being styled for a charity fashion show for Habitat for Humanity and the models strutting the runway at the Farragut Building and finally to set-up the booth in Krutch Park extension. It was a very long day, but I was glad we took time to set everything up Thursday night because there would have been no way I could have done it Friday morning. The weather started out rather chilly Friday morning but the day turned very warm and sunny by mid-day and drew the lunch crowd out to take in all the art and food on a stick. Saturday's weather was much the same and I had a great time chatting with everyone who visited the booth including a succession of photography friends. The weekend flew by and before I knew it it was Sunday and the final day of the Art Fair. The weather was absolutely glorious and it was wall-to-wall people all day. I could not have asked for a better weekend to share my fused glass goodness with everyone who ventured out to the Art Fair.

Here are some images of the Sassy Glass Studio booth in case you didn't get a chance to see it for yourself.
